Becca Schultz AKA DJ bexx is a DJ, pianist, composer, vocalist, and entrepreneur based in Portland, Oregon. She founded Vesper School of Music in 2013.
Originally from the Chicago area, Becca moved to Portland in 2007 to dive deep into the local music culture and earn her Bachelors of Music in Jazz Piano Performance summa cum laude from Portland State University. During her time at PSU she studied with acclaimed musicians Darrell Grant, Ezra Weiss, and Lisa Marsh. Becca has performed with a number of Portland-based bands over her career including Jared Mees and the Grown Children, New Move, and Yeah Great Fine. For several years Becca toured internationally with choral folk-rock band Ages and Ages, with some highlights including Newport Folk Festival and an NPR Tiny Desk Concert in 2014. As a collaborative artist, Becca has worked with vocalists, dancers, instrumentalists, musical theater, and multimedia productions across the Pacific Northwest. Since 2013 she has been an active performing artist with non-profit Piano. Push. Play. Her piano and keyboard playing and singing has been featured on a number of studio recordings. In 2013 Becca released Terrain, her debut solo record of original piano compositions. Becca's second album Prisma was released in 2019. In contrast to Terrain, Prisma is spacious, cinematic, and synth-focused. Rich textures and melodies co-exist with ambient noise in an immersive sound experience that speaks deeply of personal emotional reflections. Prisma was released alongside a book of piano sheet music arrangements. In addition to piano performances, Becca plays as DJ bexx, spinning organic house and tech house music for crowds who love to dance. Notable DJ sets have included Burning Man, Burnout 2024, The Den, Tabor Dance, and White Owl Social Club. |
